I was a PhD student in Tsinghua University. I took IELTS on Oct.14th, 2006 and got IELTS score 7.5. With IELTS high score, I stood out from twenty-four candidates for a jointly education PhD program set by “the US Fulbright Program”. The design of IELTS test is customized and can reflect the genuine English capability of test takers. My English skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing had been greatly improved when I prepared for IELTS. My career goal is to be a successful investment banker. Therefore I chose the most advanced MBA program in USA to realize my dream. At the beginning of 2006, I was hesitating whether to take IELTS or TOFEL. Later I heard of a piece of inspiring news that more than 1,000 US institutions recognized IELTS and my favorite university was in the list. I made up my mind to sit IELTS. Because my English level was not good, I found another IELTS taker to study together and encourage with each other along the way. It took me two months to prepare for IELTS. I could not help crying when I saw my score was 7.0. IELTS gave me more confidence when applying for the university. I applied for Pepperdine University, Pace University, Iowa State University and Fordham University. In the end, two universities gave me offers. Pepperdine University also gave me full scholarship. I persisted and I succeeded!

The main reason why I chose IELTS is because IELTS measures the ability of four skills to communicate in English. Another reason is because IELTS registration procedure in China is very quick and convenient. Candidates have many test dates to choose. I took IELTS on Nov.25th,2006 and got score 6.5 without taking any training courses. Finally I was admitted by PhD programme of University of Georgia. It provided me USD10,000 assistantship.
